Typical lifecycle

draft → packed → dispatched → in transit → partially received/received describes normal movement. exception and cancelled preserve an unresolved or stopped workflow. Repacking and return-to-sender create visible linked events.

Meaningful transitions

Packing confirms containment. Dispatch confirms source release. Handoff records carrier/custodian responsibility. Receiving records actual facts at destination. Unpacking changes containment again; it does not delete shipment history.

Recovery

Keep short, over, damaged, broken-seal, rejected, or delayed property in the exception path with evidence until its next controlled state is known.
