Work with expected and actual quantities
Containers aggregate items for handling, but each membership remains traceable. A shipment moves through draft, packed, dispatched, in transit, partially received, received, exception, or cancelled states. Never overwrite an expected quantity with an actual receipt.
End-to-end operator runbook
- Create shipment and containers. Set source, destination, receiver, carrier or method, and planned arrival.
- Pack and verify. Scan the intended assets into a container and record seals or handling notes where needed.
- Dispatch and hand off. Confirm physical release; this changes the operational custody/location state to transit.
- Receive by scan. Record actual quantities, condition, and receiver evidence.
- Resolve exceptions. Keep shortages, overages, damage, broken seals, repacking, and return-to-sender as visible records.
