Carrier safety
Encode an authorized identity URI or identifier, short name, ownership marker, and checksum where configured. Do not encode borrower names, agreements, addresses, values, or private notes.
Lifecycle safety
Issue, test, lock where policy supports it, replace damaged labels, revoke superseded carriers, and retain the link to the canonical record. A tag UID, RFID TID, or printed serial can support investigation but is not automatically the canonical business identifier.
Scan discipline
Pause scanning while resolving an exception. Verify the returned record and physical item together before changing custody, location, condition, or count.
